Copernicus
In December, I went to Poland to talk to archaeologists hunting for Copernicus's remains. My report on their search came out in the May issue of Smithsonian.
Radio Free Belarus
This is late in coming, but I wrote an article for the Christian Science Monitor a few weeks ago about Poland's newest radio station, a daily broadcast to Belarus. "Europe's last dictatorship," as the folks at Radio Racja call it, is in the grip of both deep social conservatism and an authoritarian who's a master at playing to people's fears. A place that bears watching.
